The Wild North had been tamed. Danger no longer lurked around every corner and over every hill. Cities were being built. Paved roads were created and sturdy houses replaced the shacks people had been living in. Dauros looked down upon 'civilization' and was pleased with what he saw. Krolm was disgusted and bid his barbaric hordes to move deeper into the unknown.
Krypta and Fervus were no longer acceptable Deities. Death and Chaos had to be removed for cities to flourish. Fervus saw these early warnings. He heeded them. Bit by bit the cultists abandonded their Temples and dissappeared into the wilderness.
Krypta was not prepared to run away from those who were bound by life, to die. Her Priestesses hid behind their stone walls and performed their ritualistic sacrifices.
Graveyards were not good for safety so the corpses had been exhumed and 'planted' in legitimate cemetaries. A single, well-maintained mausoleum was often accompanied by numerous graveyards. Skeletal abominations frequently disturbed the peace. The Paladins had had enough.
With public support on their side, they stormed the Temples of Krypta and slaughtered the Priestesses. Those who resisted did so against impossible odds. Without the support of the Cultists and their grotesque Warriors of Discord, their resistance was futile. Those who survived were herded into the Necropolis.
Fate had not smiled down upon them this day. Spend eternity pacifying the restless dead or die. They could not even sacrifice themselves in accordance with Krypta's mandate. The only gate in or out was sealed by a powerful rune and could only be opened from inside. But the key was well protected.
The single largest mausoleum was well defended and housed the Gate Key. The Priestesses couldn't rebel against the guards. Their only attempt ended in defeat when a huge Paladin strikeforce gated in and crushed the rebellion. If they were to escape, they would need help.

Piquant Flower was tired. He didn't want to run away from the Law. He wanted to enact the transformation. With enough Warriors of Discord they could defeat the Paladins. But right now they didn't have any Warriors of Discord. Krolm saw to that.
It was a mass exodus. Every Cultist and all their charmed animals were fleeing from the cities and their blasted, self-righteous Paladins. Then the Barbarians came.
The Rage of Krolm could be seen in their eyes! They boiled out from the Northern woods and fought until death embraced them! But not even a single Cultist died. With Camouflage and Change Shape at their disposal, they slipped into the forest and dissappeared.
The Warriors of Discord did not know the word flee. They butchered the Barbarians. In the end it was the Rangers who finally ended their chaotic attack. Krolm had underestimated his enemies cunning. He had squandered his opportunity to decimate Fervus's followers.
The Cultists could not stop travelling. They feared another Barbarian attack. After two moons time, they came to a place that had not been touched by the hand of man. The wandering clans slowly congregated here. At first a few animal bones were arranged around a rock or a tree. These were the earliset of their new Temples to Fervus. Fervus was delighted at his followers abilities!
This entire area was granted Fervus's protection. A massive, impenetrable wall of vines seals it off from the rest of the world. An army of Daemonwood protect this sacred place. The Cultists had been dealt a cruel blow, but they would survive. In time, their Temples to Fervus reached a majestic level that had never before been possible. Surrounded by the chaos of life, they were finally at peace.

Mada Uaenaj woke up just as the sun crept up over thr treetops. After a light meal of fish and berries he packed his gear and started walking east. Within an hour he came to a cluster of stone piles.
"Another city.", Mada thought to himself.
"Identify yourself!", the guard did not trust any strangers.
"I am Mada Uaenaj. I am on a quest."
"Gruesome weapon you got there. What are you planning on doing with it."
"This? This is nothing. A family heirloom if you must know."
"Just don't cause any trouble.", with that the guard went on his way.
Mada went to the marketplace to pick up some supplies. Bread, spices, stuff you couldn't get at a trading post.
"Excuse me, do you have a Rogue's Guild?"
The peasant was obviously bothered by the question but pointed Mada in the right direction.
"First left, down a ways."
"Thank you"
The Rogue's Guild was an old imposing building. Composed of dirty gray stone and rotting wood, it looked as if it was held together by a prayer. Mada pushed open the gate and cringed as it squealed in protest. This was obviously a crude early warning system, because two rogues immediately appeared. They were hiding in the shadows, with their crossbows pointed at Mada's heart.
"I'm looking for Loo the Screamer." One of the Rogues stepped forward.
"I'm here."
"We must talk, inside." The Rogue motioned towards the window and after a moment the front door quietly swung open. Mada followed them inside.
The guild was a mess of contrabond and trash. A few candles flickered from wrought-iron chandeliers.
"What business do you have with Loo?"
Mada seated himself, back to the wall, and said,"You have an item for me"
"If you speakin' truth, it's your move."
"Indeed it is." Mada slipped the Rogue a note and a small, but heavy, coinpurse.
"So you want item 'v8FNpf'"
"Yes"
"Bring it" A rogue went in to the back room and came out with a scroll. The scroll was handed to Mada.
"Nice doing business with you, I know nothing and saw nothing." As Mada walked out the door the Rogues sat for a tense moment waiting for the gate to squeal. When it didn't, one of them peeked outside and didn't see him anywhere.
"How did he scale the wall that fast? I didn't hear a thing."
"Just be glad he's gone." As he went back inside the Rogue stared over his shoulder with great unease.

'It' was cold. 'It' was cold and and alone and in the dark. 'It' sat huddled in an alley. A sewer entrance provided food and occasional warmth, in the form of rats and steam. 'It' muttered nonsensical gibberish under 'It's' breath. The memories were returning. And with them came the pain of abandonment. It was an old pain. 'It' had been lost for at least a year. Huddled in the dark, it had no perception of time. Life was endless pain. 'Its' muscles should have atrophied, but they were 'Its' curse and would never leave. Where were the funny little people? They had left 'It'. Their cute little animals went with them. All the other 'Its' were dead. 'It' was the last of its kind. Suddenly 'Its' eyes narrowed to slits! 'It' stared with deathly intent upon the little rodent crawling towards 'It'. With a sudden lurch 'It' snatched the rat and swallowed it without a moment's hesitation. 'It' shuddered in agony as the little creature refused to be still. And that was just another day.

The infection had spread farther than Mada had first expected. But the Monk's letter told him all he needed to know. The Sovereign was unfit to rule. The Elves and the Rogues were exerting too much pressure. Not even the Royal Advisor knew what was going on. Someone wanted complete control of Ardania. If the Sovereign was under someone else's control things were bad. Really bad. He suspected Megan. Megan was a Sorceress who lost control of her own powers. An evil influence tainted her mind and she tried to conquer Ardania. But this took place a millenium ago. The Paladins defeated her and her body disintergrated. Mada knew of nothing that could have brought her back. But Meagan was the only Sorceress to ever harness the powers of the Demons. Only she could corrupt an entire kingdom in secret. The Monk explained how the Paladins had changed. They became consumed by the Law of Dauros and wouldn't listen to reason. There must be an explanation for all this! Why would she exile the Priestesses and chase off the Cultists? Why? Mada put away the letter and set off for the Necropolis.

The Demon Lady was back. She was constantly searching for 'It'. Trying to find 'Its' conciousness. 'It' sank even deeper into the shadows, trying not to be discovered. She was looking for something. Probing the ethereal plane, trying to find...

'It' didn't want to leave. But the Demon Lady knew where 'It' was. She had found 'It'. 'It' was scared and had lashed out at her. 'It' had damaged her mentally. But she knew where 'It' was. Soon she would heal. Once her mind was whole, she would awaken and she would find 'Its' body. 'It' could only cower in fear and wait.

This was pointless! The priestesses were locked up, the Cultists were who-knows-where, and Mada Uaenaj, the travelling fighter, was lost in another filthy city!
"If I don't get out into nature again I'm gonna go insane!"
Mada stopped. He stopped walking. He stopped thinking. He stopped, and he listened. There it was again. Beneath the hustle and bustle there was something else. A hidden sound. Mada slowly, carefully crept over to the next building. It was hiding. It was...
It was alone and afraid. Like a lost child. He cautiously stepped into a dark alley.
"Is anyone there?", he called out. There was definitely something here. He could see it. Shadows on black, moving around. Sinking into the corner. Hiding.
"You can come out. It's okay."
"Friend?"
Mada's heart stopped. Whatever it was, it was huge! He suddenly realized he had no idea what he was doing. This wasn't just some kid who got lost.

"It" forgot about the fear, and the cold, and the dark. Something was making sounds. Strange sounds "It" almost remembered. Words! The funny little people used them! This must be one of them. The funny little people were back. They came to "It" and saved "It" from the Demon Lady. And "It" spoke, for the first time in as long as "It" could remember.
"Friend?"

Mada Uaenaj was scared. Something was coming and it could talk. 'Friend', that's what it said. No, wait, 'Friend?', that was it. It was asking if Mada was a friend. He tried to say yes. He tried to say no. He tried to say anything, anything at all. But all that would come out was the quiet mumbling of someone who had seen too much, and knew too little about what was happening.
As it stepped out of the shadows it began to take on shape, details replacing obscurities. It was tall, at least 8', maybe more. It's head was misshapen and there seemed to be 'things' poking out at odd angles. Something was dreadfully wrong with this entire event. How often did monsters actually come out of alleys? Why did it have to happen to Mada? And when he saw "It", his worst fears came true.

An ear-piercing screech heralded the destruction of the Solarcranum! Sparks were flying as it slowly stopped spinning. Celestriel Nightsbane watched in horror as the sundial end slowly rose up into the air. If the glass lens hit the ground it would shatter. But for all her training she could do nothing. It picked up speed and with a loud CRACK! the lens was destroyed. Helia's Flame extinguished itself. The Temple was ruined! The Solarcranum was busted and if even one of the Runestones was damaged, the other five wouldn't focus their energies properly. The cause of all this destruction reared its ugly head and roared towards the setting sun. Celestriel picked up her mace, she had a Minotaur to kill. She rushed it and whacked the creature's ankle. With a roar it brought down it's giant axe and barely missed! Again, Celestriel hammered the foul beast's ankle! This time it fell. But it wasn't dead yet. It wildly swung it's axe around caused even more damage to the temple. Celestriel ran up to the center of the Solarcranum, where Helia's Flame would normally be. It was damaged but their was still enough stored energy here for her to finish the off the Minotaur. But she couldn't access it! The Runestones were the only emergency system and they hadn't had enough direct sunlight to charge. She frantically thought of plan after plan and realized none of them would work. She wasn't strong enough to face the Minotaur directly. Then she remebered the lens. If it was in contact with one of the Runestones, she would be able to draw upon the Solarcranum's powers! No! There was a gap of mere inches! She had to bridge the gap to complete the circuit. Her mace! It was Helia related so it should work. With one hand on the Runestone and the other holding her mace in place, she began to absorb the neccessary power. She used her weapon as the focal point and was pleased to see it faintly glowing. With that done she charged up the Solarcranum's arm and leapt off the sundial end, her mace held high above her head! She could see her reflection in the Minotaur's eyes. A fiery young woman with what looked like the Sun itself raised above her! She had only a second to observe this before she ended the Minotaur's reign of terror.

The wind howled up the cliffs. It brought with it the sound of crashing surf and the smell of seasalt. The Necropolis was the size of a small kingdom. The entire area had been walled off to make sure that no priestess escaped. Their unholy fires burned through the night. Their deathly presence had cast the entire region into eternal dark. This land had not seen the sun since their imprisonment. Mada could do nothing. He would have to try and find the Cultists.

Three Solarii cautiously approached their ruined Temple. When they saw the Minotaur's body they all gave a deep sigh of relief.
Celestriel couldn't resist the chance to brag in front of her superiors."What took you so long?"
"We had work.", Jupista was almost as strict as a priestess.
"What happened to the Temple!?", Glowri felt prayer was important so the Temple itself was critical to her.
"Minotaur.", Celestriel said this very matter-of-factly.
"We leave you alone for one minute, and you wrecked the Temple?!", Arylia was shocked!
"Hey! I killed a Minotaur!", Celestriel said defensively.
"And we killed 15 without destroying anything more than a pair of houses.", Jupista was their leader and quickly put Celestriel in her place. Celestriel could think of nothing to say.
Jupista continued to give orders,"Now, Celestriel Nightsbane, go find a dwarf. We will need one of them to repair the Temple."
"But there aren't any dwarves in this village!"
"Then go across the swamp and get one!"
"Can't we get an Adept to do it?"
Celestriel had clearly made a mistake. The only thing Jupista hated more than a troll, and she really hated trolls, was an Adept.
She spoke in harsh, reprimanding tones,"Two problems: One, there is NOTHING an Adept can do that a Solarus can't do better. Two, the only Temple to Lunord is ALSO on the other side if the swamp."
"As you wish, Jupista the Fiery." With that said, Celestriel Nightsbane headed out for the Goblin infested swamp.

There was only one thing in all of Ardania that scared Mada Uaenaj. A Warrior of Discord. He didn't know what it was about them, but they scared the life out of him. And now, he was lying in an alley, in another filthy city, not even two feet away from one of them.
