Well, I picked up the Prima Guide the other day and looked through that gambling game that comes with the Gambling Hall. Essentially the rules of the game are:

You bet on Blue, Red or Gold.

Blue comes up 10 out of 20 times and wins you 2 times your bet amount.
Red comes up 4 out of 20 times and wins you 5 times your bet amount.
Gold comes up 1 out of 20 times and wins you 20 times your bet amount.
Skulls comes up 5 out of 20 times.

So just imagine a large roulette wheel with 20 spokes and all odd numbers (1,3,5,7..) are coloured blue, the numbers 4,8,12,16 are coloured Red and the lucky number 20 is coloured Gold. All others (2,6,10,14,18) have a little skull on them.

Just for fun, I actually wrote a little program that immitated the Gambling Hall's roulette wheel (which I called Sovereign's Wheel for fun) and found out (by repeatedly running the program) that if you bet on Blue, chances are that you'll probably win loads of cash in the long run - most of the time.

So I sat down at Majesty and spent about 1 Day plugging away at the Gambling Hall on Blue at 1000 gold a toss. I think this might be a sound starting strategy in some quests - plug in about 5000 to 10000 gold for about 1 Day and see if you can win yourself a windfall which can help jump-start your quest. Who says the Gambling Hall isn't helpful after all

Hmmm, but it seems like you would just break even in the long run.
Are you sure that works?
If you place 20 bets on blue for 1000 gold/each you will spend 20k gold.
If you hit 10 blues on average then you would get 2000 gold * 10 = 20k gold.
How do you make your money?

I know the probabilities don't tally up right - but I've managed to win quite a fair amount most of the time, maybe even hit 40000 when starting with 10000 gold.

Maybe I'm just lucky

TS Can you write a little program to change some of the building / lair setup information in the Maj/MajX quest files?

Nah, that's going into MODing the Majesty Quest Files and such. The right way to go about this is to first try MODing the files manually first using maybe a text-editor or maybe even a Hex editor, and then once you've got everything figured out, THEN you write a program (probably in C++) to make the work easier.

And that's just assuming that parts of the files aren't encrypted.

I don't think they are. I've seen them in notepad and they look fairly simple.

I'll take a look at them. But, frankly, I'm more interested in programming other more exciting things - which I intend to announce to the forums at a later date

OK, this is only a little off topic.

I've never been to Vegas, but I'm a big fan of playing blackjack at the Native American reservation casinos in Michigan and the "riverboat" (actually floating platforms on lakes) casinos in Illinois.

Here's my question - can bladeles or anyone else tell me whether or not the Vegas casinos have blackjack tables with low minimums? I've heard that the (relatively) new casino in Windsor has $25 tables and nothing lower - which is just too rich for my blood. At $25 a hand, I'd likely go through $200 in 10 minutes and have to quit...I'm just not a "high roller".

Just curious if anyone happens to know.

I live at the $5/hand tables. THey are a little harder to find (sometime you have to go into the seedier places) but they do exist. THe most common low-stakes is $10... but you can find just about any level higher... I watched some $100/hand tables for a bit... you gotta be packing a lot of dough, tho.

I'm not a high roller, either... but the $5/hand is quite fun. You can last for a long time, and you get free drinks!

Yes, If you are in the right place at the right time. Just don't try to go to Caesars or Bellagio on holiday weekend night and expect to see the cheap tables.
