I feel like a meanie for raising this, but I'd like to start some quests with Gnomes, then switch to Elves/Dwarves once Ive got a reasonably sized settlement.

Could someone who has actually managed to do this explain to me how I could go about it, please? Obviously, I already understand it will involve flagging my own dwellings. What I am unclear about is:

  1. Which specific hero types will I need to do the dirty deed. Do I have to rely on WoD and Rogues, or are there others I may persuade?
  2. What order of magnitude reward money should I be looking at to convince some savage to bash in the home of a hard-working innocent?

Thanks for any help. I realise that experimaentation would probably yield the same info, but my Majesty time is somewhat limited at the moment, and I would rather play than dabble during the small amount of time I have. I'm playing catch-up with you experts, anyhow

Kit refined a technique for eliminating gnomes he called "Gnome Eviction" by using Rogues which only requires 100G attack flags. This is tricky because gnomes will rebuild destroyed hovels faster than you can spit. The timing has to be just right and the hovels all have to go down in a very short time span for it to work. But if you can master it it is the cheapest way to get rid of them. His article for this is buried somewhere in the MFO archives. I haven't been able to find it in a long time. The more reliable way is to zap them with lightning bolts. On average a lightning bolt will cause 20 damage (can't remember what the hit points are for hovels(60?) but you can do the math. Or you can use a combination of Rogues and lightning bolts to help cut the cost.

If you decide to try Rogues recruit one at a time and flag the most distant hovel first. Rogues will go for the nearest 100G flag when they first emerge. Once that Rogue has gone for that hovel recruit the next Rogue and flag the next closest hovel and so on. You may have to take the flag off the first hovel if it is being destroyed too rapidly and it is clear that the others will not come down in time. Then you can finish it off with lightning bolts when the others come down.

Goldy

P.S. I forgot. Don't forget to take the hovels off the repair route before you start.

Here's my method:

Recruit 4 rogues.

Take hovels off the repair queue.

Flag one for 100G, remove flag when building hp gets to 20-25. Be quick. (By the time you actually remove the flag, hp will be even lower.)

Flag the next, and remove when 20-25.

Flag the 3rd. When damage gets to 20 or so, reflag the other two with 100G.

Voila. For faster results, use WoDs, who do much, much more damage to buildings. Also, you can Call-to-Arms the WoDs to get them away from a hovel they might otherwise destroy.

Multiplayer note:
Be careful, tho'. Clever folk, like me, who talk loudly in restaurants, and who know about gnome evictions, will take a look at any town using gnomes to see if this is planned. A lack of loyalty buildings and a pack of rogues will see me flagging something far more important.

It's like me not to read the manual until I'm in doubt.
So I recruited gnomes. When I found out that Only one kind of race could be in my city, I sent lightning bolts to the hovels.
Eventualy they collapse, leaving you with dwarves or elves.
heres a hint, go with elves, first. then when the elven casinos and lounges pop up, destroy the bungalows. then build a dwarven settlement. The dwarves are noted for greed and would love a good casino, making them more desperate for money. An easy target for those reward flags. Or if you like dwarves, yet want to make yourself filthy rich, then that will do with a casino!

"Why am I known as the Son of the Dragon King?
It all started when the godess; Krypta and the Immortal Dragon; Vendrak
were married. They loved one another, and became one. Soon they had a child. His name was Micah. Krypta sent her son to the realm of valmorgin, there he was raised by the priestess' during his childhood.
During the steps of his manhood he was trained by the rangers of Loredia. I am that child, I am Micah, Son of the Dragon King!

Hail from the dragon.

I can't imagine wanting to do this. This first thing I usually is flag the Casino and Gambling Hall after taking them off the repair route. Casino and Gambling Eviction is the Rogues' first order of business. Usually......

Remember the average amount of gold needed to evict the gnomes with lightning bolts?

It's somewhere in this topic:
Majesty Trivia

And I forgot about the 'triple spell cocktail' - also in the same topic.

Ah, the memories...

Thanks, everyone. Apart from the fact I find it kinda disturbing how much experience you people have in zapping those poor li'l blighters, this post is just what I needed.

Now, before I actually try it, does anyone have any salve for my conscience? When I see those hovels tumble, I'm going to have to talk pretty fast to placate the guy who sits on my shoulder.

LOL, Sheriff. Your posts are rapidly becoming my favorite for the entertainment value alone. Your killing me.

Hey! I've heard all about the USA - a country so deviant that you all sit on your donkeys and allow your unwashed bums to hang out on the streets.
